How To - The Clairs
Hello, friends!
I have been trying to add more educational posts to my website, not just as a resource for myself but also to help those who are on their journey. There is a lot of information out there and I am a research junkie. Honestly, I am wondering if this is more of a problem being this way, but I enjoy diving deep into various topics and learning as much as I can about them.
I recall starting my journey and not knowing where to start. I wanted a mentor, but it never truly worked out. My first place after seeking a spiritual friend who was into the woo woo stuff was going to local libraries and finding various books on different subjects. I found blogs, websites, online journals, and such to help me understand myself a bit more thoroughly. It can feel a bit overwhelming trying to figure out what is what and where you fit in the spectrum.
I have always loved astrology and often call it my "gateway drug" into the witchy woo woo world. I picked up my first Tarot deck at 14 and just dove off the deep end into all things out there. After my whole "awakening" process began, I really started seeing things ramp up. When I was a child I could see and speak to spirits, and I could also dream of things that came to pass. These were different from using tools such as astrology and the tarot to gain understanding. These were gifts that I wanted to understand and work with further.
So one of the most interesting topics is discussing the "clairs" as gifts. And no, not talking about a particular person, I am speaking of the gifts known as clairaudient, clairvoyant, clairsentient, and so forth.
To further understand what they mean, let us understand what the word "clair" means. The word comes from the French word for clear. Adding the various words after clair just points to what is clear. Many of us may understand what clairvoyant means - break it down to clair (clear) and voyant (seeing). This can be used to describe someone who sees into situations clearly.
I thought I would post some vocabulary words and also some of the various ways this gift can manifest in others. The words "clairvoyance" and "psychic" are often used to refer to many different kinds of paranormal sensory experiences, but there are more specific names:
Clairsentience (feeling/touching)
In the field of parapsychology, clairsentience is a form of extra-sensory perception wherein a person acquires psychic knowledge primarily by feeling. The word “clair” is French for "clear", and “sentience” is derived from the Latin sentire, “to feel”. Psychometry is related to clairsentience. The word stems from psyche and metric, which means "soul-measuring".
This is a gift that can manifest with those who can read objects. They can touch and pick up information on the objects, owners, and also locations. They may be a bit sensitive to certain things or more particular about things touching them.
There are times where I have touched certain places (the walls) and felt the energetic current there - the good, bad, and ugly. All things have energy that can be read, and this gift shows up to tell us what's what.
Clairaudience (hearing/listening)
In the field of parapsychology, clairaudience - from late 17th century French clair (clear) and audience (hearing) - is a form of extra-sensory perception where a person acquires information by paranormal auditory means. It is often considered to be a form of clairvoyance. Clairaudience is essentially the ability to hear in a paranormal manner, as opposed to paranormal seeing (clairvoyance) and feeling (clairsentience).
This is how one of my "clairs" manifests and it allows me to hear things. It was one of the reasons I thought I was a bit crazy, but after learning how to create boundaries with my guides and spirits, the way this manifest is less stressful on me. I use my clairaudience in order to do Automatic Writing for my client work. If you want to learn how to do that, check out this blog post HERE.
Clairalience (smelling)
Also known as clairescence. In the field of parapsychology, clairalience (or alternatively, clairolfactance) - presumably from late 17th century French clair (clear) and alience (smelling) - is a form of extra-sensory perception where a person accesses psychic knowledge through the physical sense of smell.
This is a fun one that I also experience and has allowed me to make certain connections in my client work. It is funny one that manifests without really being able to control it, but it is exciting when the smells I pick up on are significant to my clients. It is interesting as the scents are sometimes very light, while other times it is overwhelming. I also smell certain flower essences when my angel guides are near.
Claircognizance (knowing)
In the field of parapsychology, claircognizance - French clair (clear) and cognizance (connoissance, knowledge) - is a form of extra-sensory perception where a person acquires psychic knowledge primarily by means of intrinsic knowledge. It is the ability to know something without a physical explanation why you know it, like the concept of mediums.
This is another gift that I have really developed over the last 15 years. I am not sure if I was born with it, but with time I have allowed things to progress. It is why I also operate from a skeptic's perspective and prefer to not know anything from my clients besides their name. I want information to come in without me trying to make it fit to my perception of them.
Sometimes the feelings that accompany this is just learning to trust yourself more fully. It is like a strong gut feeling. I have realized that the more I trust the feelings I get or the things that I know, the better the connection between what comes to pass or is correct happens.
Clairgustance (tasting)
In the field of parapsychology, clairgustance is defined as a form of extra-sensory perception that allegedly allows one to taste a substance without putting anything in one's mouth. It is claimed that those who possess this ability are able to perceive the essence of a substance from the spiritual or ethereal realms through taste.
I haven't personally experienced this and I am glad, as just the clairalience can be a bit distracting and make you feel a bit odd, especially when no one else can smell a particular thing. I have met a few people who manifest this gift and I am always surprised at how strong their tastes come through.
As I am not too well versed with this gift, I am not sure how someone would strengthen or grow this ability.
ClairVoyance (seeing)
In the field of parapsychology, clairvoyance - French clair (clear) and voyance (seeing) - is a form of extra-sensory perception where a person acquires psychic knowledge primarily by means of visual phenomena. It is the ability to see something without a physical explanation why are capable of seeing, like the concept of psychics who can see into the past or future.
This is another gift that I have really developed over the last 20 years. I am not sure if I was born with it, but with time I have allowed things to progress. I sometimes see things very clearly and wish I could describe things more clearly, while other times it is like a movie being played out in my mind. Details stand out and they sometimes feel like false memories. Clairvoyance can also be used in combination with other methods to enhance (such as mirror gazing, crystal balls, scrying, and such) the natural abilities.
Sometimes the feelings that accompany this is just learning to trust what you see and know. I have seen very gifted psychics see some amazing things come to pass, so perhaps the best way to develop and strengthen this gift is to continuously trust your intuition.
At the end of the day, all gifts are personal and it is up to each individual to connect in ways that make sense to them. Be comfortable with your gifts and don't stress if you can't do all of these. They are subtle gifts that can be developed with a lot of trust, as well as trial and error. I will talk more of other methods to strengthen and develop these gifts and how to use them in practical ways.
It is my personal belief that every person is capable of being connected to their empathetic abilities and that we are all capable of being "psychic" to a certain extent. Some people are plugged in and very sensitive, others have forgotten how to tune in and pay attention. As with all things, I have come to realize that many of these gifts are subtle and easily missed. We write things off believing it is only coincidence or that we can't possibly know things.
You can. You do.
Just trust yourself a bit more.
As with all things, practice, trust, and belief will play the biggest roles in allowing you to connect more fully to your natural abilities.
What are some of the clairs you have? How do you use them? Do you trust yourself when you get these intuitive hits?
Simple, and yet so many of us have a hard time just making the space to really connect.
Thanks for being here and I can't wait to share more fun posts and share more of what I have learned along the way.
